ZyGoCasterE Streams Videos From Handhelds to QuickTime Players

San Diego, CA - October 15, 2004

ZyGoDigital LLC announces ZyGoCasterE™ for streaming video from embedded systems. ZyGoCasterE is being demonstrated on Pocket PC handhelds to stream video to laptop and desktop computers running QuickTime’s Movie Player and ZyGoDigital’s own ZyGoMediaShow™ player (also available for handhelds).

ZyGoCasterE will be used to stream video from an embedded computer in an F18 aircraft over the military’s Link 16, low bandwidth data link, in flight tests later this year at the Navy’s China Lake facility. Other planned demonstrations include a number of security applications where ground personnel are deployed and a visual record of their surroundings is needed.

Rod Sheffield, President and CEO of ZyGoDigital had this to say about ZyGoCasterE’s features: “We have been working to give our clients the smallest footprint for streaming video that we can. Our Missile Defense Agency customers stream videos and audio from Kwajalein, Kuaui, mobile locations in the South Pacific, and Kodiak to Colorado Springs, Huntsville, and Washington DC using Apple Xserves. Several videos are broadcast from each rack-mounted unit, yet there are many cases where a rack mounted computer or even a laptop are just too big for the application. This is certainly the case within a fighter plane’s cockpit and is even more the case when individuals are in the field. We continue to stream videos at typical modem rates with our handheld and embedded platforms. In this way, hundreds of video streams can be created and viewed in a typical wireless network. Our ZyGoCasterE will allow governments, local police and others to have visual awareness of situations onboard commercial and military aircraft, along the borders, harbors, and within cities.”

San Diego based ZyGoDigital offers streaming video with XML annotations as a part of ZyGoCasting custom solutions. More advanced custom solutions can use the XML annotations to create an event (such as an intruder alert signal) within the video stream, recognize it with ZyGoMediaShow,™ and create a video clip automatically at a remote viewing site. Both compression settings and file addresses may be modified during the streaming broadcast, effectively creating video clips with different resolutions and data rates for later streaming broadcasts. ZyGoCasterE can be run remotely over IP link from command files so that there is no need for on board user inputs, or screen displays, greatly increasing the battery life of handheld implementations. ZyGoMediaShow,™ can also be used to tile videos on a single display (such as a Plasma screen) as a low cost alternative to video walls and to display metadata (the XML annotations) in synchronization with the videos.

Qualified requests for demonstration and contracting for ZyGoCasting real time streaming solutions can be arranged by sending email to: sales@zygodigital.com.
